Hello and welcome to my website!
Thank you for taking the time to view my website. I’m Rachel, originally from Rotherham, South Yorkshire. My life as a photographer started over 30 years ago when I spent 2 years studying to obtain a City & Guilds 7470 Professional Photography Competences certificate at The Sheffield College. This was in the good old days of film photography and darkroom printing. I gained a good understanding of lighting, exposure and composition from the course. After my studies I spent a few years working for the local council until I became a Forensic Photographer with West Yorkshire Police. For nearly 9 years this was my dream job. However, over time I found the job both mentally and physically exhausting. I struggled to sleep at night and eventually left the job depressed and burnt out. My escape was the Lake District....In need of a fresh start, I currently work for the North West Ambulance Service as an Ambulance Care Assistant based on the edge of the Lake District in Kendal, Cumbria. This role involves working outdoors in all weathers whilst driving patients to and from hospital appointments as part of the Patient Transport Service. I’m constantly amazed by the stunning landscape and ever changing light as I drive around the county of Cumbria and beyond. It’s an amazing office to work from! Outside of work I enjoy spending time taking landscape photographs in the Lake District, Cumbria, the Yorkshire Dales and Scotland. Occasionally I capture images of wildlife such and deer, red squirrels and birds. I also can never resist taking photos of the many Herdwick Sheep that live on the Cumbrian fells.Creating this website was a brave decision to expose myself to the world! I'm naturally an introvert and very comfortable being alone in the outdoors. I love still misty mornings with only birdsong to keep me company. I'm always humbled when wildlife feels comfortable enough to behave naturally when I'm taking photos nearby.Once again thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy browsing through my images.
